I believe in Person-Centred Counseling where my client is seen perfectly capable of growth and recovery if and when the necessary conditions of therapy are provided consistently. These essential conditions are empathy, congruence and unconditional positive regard.
To explain a bit more, an individual may face situations in life where he or she may experience self-alienation and a distance from one’s own real self. Self-worth is shaken and symptoms of depression and anxiety follow. This happens when when too many conditions are placed on a person to be accepted by others, and the ‘Real Self’ goes underground and a false sense of self is created.
Therapy should provide unconditional positive regard and empathy to restore the inner self or nature, and motivate an individual to experience and grow as one should.
With many clients, I use an evidence-based Cognitive Approach to encourage improvement in our perceptions and behaviors. We focus on coping styles because certain coping styles are maladaptive such is anger, avoidance, substance abuse, and suicidal behaviors.Together we can learn new ways of coping with stress and anxiety and test new and more functional behaviors.
We can also develop goals and recovery plans and chart a program to reach our desired goals.
In short, I love to help people reach their goals in life, and be truly happy.
